Context
GAIN Group bought the land in December 2021 with plans for a stand alone Mercedes car dealership. With adoption of the Uptown Douglas Plan by Saanich Council, GAIN has stated it was clear that stand alone car dealerships would not be permitted and Mercedes would not enter a contract with housing above, thus the switch to a residential development.
Developers have tried to purchase the building at the corner of Cloverdale and Oak but the owners have declined; yet the 816 Cloverdale design proposal will not impede development and underground parking for a future development at 800 Cloverdale Ave.
