Future of History

The Maritime Museum of B.C., in partnership with the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations, is planning a $40-million “Future of History” project featuring a floating Indigenous exhibit space on Victoria’s Inner Harbour and a new museum home in the CPR Steamship Terminal.
The floating structure, on the former Undersea Gardens site, would include a Lekwungen Peoples welcome and exhibit centre highlighting traditional use of local waterways thousands of years before colonial contact. The Maritime Museum is currently located in the Victoria Conference Centre.

CHEK TV story originally broadcast in January 2002 on the fate of the Paciifc

Undersea Gardens which lasted until October 2013 before closing. It was removed

from it's floating location and replaced with a dock for high speed catamaran ferry

service, first to Vancouver and currently as a dock for the Victoria clipper to Seattle.
