Context
Directly opposite of Christ Church Cathedral and on the site of the downtown YMCA. Walk score of 99, bike score 92, transit score 92. Map
In 2018 the YMCA sold the site to Concert Properties for $22 million, with a seven-year leaseback expiring in 2025. According to Victoria Buzz “there were high hopes for a new, purpose-built facility as part of a mixed-use redevelopment at the Capitol 6 Theatre site. But despite an initial agreement with Jawl Properties and city-approved rezoning last year, the project moved ahead without the Y in the plans. With no firm timeline on redevelopment of the Broughton site, Concert Properties—who has waived the Y’s rent since the pandemic—had left the door open to extend the lease on a year-to-year basis.” However in May 2025 the YMCA announced they would be taking over and leasing the 20,000 square foot space formerly held by GoodLife Fitness in the downtown Bay Centre and moving in by early 2026.
