Isn't this a bit much?
Yes
Why so many maps though?
Google Maps allows only 10 layers per map and heavy use of pins or linked information slows the maps response time. Better to have cleaner faster maps instead of a bloated slow one, or so my mother always told me.
Why did you arrange the layers in that order?
There has to be some order to the disorder! In some cases (such as items that are 'new' I put that category near the bottom as Google Maps places the icons from the bottom layers on top. If I had them at the top they would be buried under the older pins and not as visible.
What's up with those long exposed links in the Google Maps?
I get it, no one wants to see long exposed links; however, Google Maps does not allow hyperlinked text within Google My Maps.
Are you a developer shill, plant, stooge or lackeyboy?
No. Most of my photography is of heritage buildings and homes. My ridiculous goal is to document the streets and landscape of Victoria, thus I'm interested in what has been as well as what will be - aka new construction. And devastation of the city by natural and man made events. I'll try to capture that too.
Why don't you share your opinion on new developments in Victoria?
Why don't you? Email me at mappingvictoria@gmail.com and I may feature your thoughts on the site. For the most part I won't share my personal opinon as there is just too much going on and truth be told about 25% of new projects are good to excellent, 50% not bad, and 25% could use improvement. Plus who am I to poop all over someone who's put their money where their mouth is. That doesn't sound quite right does it..
What's next?
Continuing to add and enhance the site including better visualizations of locations by using a '3D' map or wider shots of the city showing multiple buildings to improve context. Google's base map is a bit messy so perhaps flyovers using Google Earth.
Has anyone even asked you these frequently asked questions?
No, I'm just so organized that I preemptively answer questions. That no one probably will ever ask. You're welcome.
